Hello!

My name is Shannon Ott and I went to IU-Indianapolis where I majored in Psychology and minored in Forensic Science. I finished top 10% of my school with a 3.94 GPA. I welcome you to explore my e-portfolio and learn all about who I am and what I have accomplished during my undergraduate journey.

My Story

As mentioned above I got a psychology major at Indiana University–Indianapolis with a minor in forensic science. I have a strong interest in mental health, justice, and prevention-focused work. I was involved in the Peer Prevention Education Program through CAPS at IU Indianapolis and served as a Wellness Ambassador on campus. In both roles, I helped lead campus education on suicide prevention, substance use, and mental health awareness. I also continue to serve as a teen support group leader for Ambassadors of Hope, creating trauma-informed spaces that promote trust, resilience, and emotional expression for teens.

Additionally, I was selected to serve on the Chancellor’s Mental Health Council my senior year, where I collaborated on research examining student mental health needs and access to resources on campus. The rest of the council and I presented our findings and recommendations to the Chancellor in April 2026. I have also worked as a teaching assistant for Research Methods in Psychology (Lecture) and served as an Honors College peer mentor, supporting students academically and socially.

My other academic and professional experiences include an internship with the Marion County Juvenile Probation Department, an internship at Beacon of Hope Crisis Center (a domestic violence and sexual assault NGO), a study abroad program in Croatia focused on social work in post-war communities, campus employment at the IU Indianapolis Fitness Center, and two years as a member of the IU Indianapolis women’s soccer team. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of how environment, trauma, and access to resources shape behavior.

I plan to pursue graduate school to become a forensic social worker, with the goal of integrating prevention, compassionate care, and evidence-based practices to support underserved and justice-involved populations.
