Reflection Questions

1. How did the time in Aljmaš help you process and reflect on your experience in Croatia?
-It gave me the space to slow down, appreciate what I had learned, and bond more deeply with the group in a peaceful, meaningful way.

2. What did you learn about Croatian hospitality and traditions through this visit?
-I saw how food, nature, and quality time are central to Croatian hospitality—it’s about genuine care and connection.

3. Why are informal, shared moments like meals and play valuable in cross-cultural learning?
-They break down barriers, create trust, and allow for authentic connection that deepens understanding beyond structured learning.

Aljmaš is a peaceful village nestled along the Danube River in eastern Croatia, known for its natural beauty and spiritual calm. During our visit, we spent time at a host family's weekend house, where we reflected on our journey, shared a homemade meal of sarma, and celebrated the connections we had built throughout the program. We picked fresh fruit, played games, and took a quiet walk by the river—moments that allowed us to slow down, appreciate community, and find joy in simplicity.
