Honor's Statements

Summary: The "I am" statement identifies and articulates the values and qualities of an honors student that matter to me the most. Later on in the semester, we created "I want to become" statements. The "I want to become" statement sets goals for who I want to become as an honors student at IUPUI.

"I am" Statement

To be a hardworking, responsible, and goal-oriented member in the Honors College at IUPUI. But I will also strive to collaborate and communicate with other members of our community. To use these values and qualities throughout my journey at IUPUI I will be able to grow as an individual and to help my community grow too.

"I want to become" Statement

I want to strive to become more engaged in my community, both my academic community and the Indianapolis community as a whole. I want to graduate successfully while still playing the sport I love while in undergrad. After undergrad, I want to go to graduate school to get a master’s in forensic psychology. Then, I want to become a forensic psychologist where I can help apply psychological theory to criminal investigations and help treat those who have committed offenses. I want to help people who are struggling mentally realize that there is hope and somehow become a part of that hope for them even if the legal system is involved.

I want to become a more compassionate person while pursuing a loving and authentic life. I hope to become a respectful, balanced, and loyal member of society where people treat me the same. I want to become someone who continues to discipline themselves and persevere through all challenges that come their way. I want to become a role model for people so that they come to
me for advice whenever they need help with something.

I want to become more motivated, positive, and joyful during my time at IUPUI and beyond. I want to grow more as an individual by becoming more organized, sharing my story to help others, and taking advantage of more opportunities while I can. I want to become more welcoming and speak out more so that I can connect to others more. Finally, I want to be proud of the things I have accomplished and the memories I have made.

Reflection

These statements helped me do a self-reflection of my character after starting college. I was able to identify my qualities, values, and skills as an incoming honors college student. Then, I used this as a guide to focus on what I want to do in the future. I was able to create future goals and values/skills I wanted to continue during my time as an honors student at IUPUI. Overall, it helped me to analyze my plans and to create an overview of who I want to be in the future.
